Thank you for visiting the Sturgeon Bay Open Bass Tournament (SBOBT) website. The Sturgeon Bay Open Bass Tournament has two tournaments throughout the year. The spring tournament is always the weekend after Mothers Day with the fall tournament the weekend after Labor Day. Everyone involved in the planning of these tournaments is a volunteer. There are 12 committee members that work all year long to put these tournaments together. The entry fee for the 2010 spring tournament was $410 per 2-person team. The fall tournament entry fee is $210 per 2-person team. These entry fees are subject to change without notice. Ten dollars from each team per tournament goes into our “Conservation Fund”. This fund was incorporated to assist in community-based programs and to promote and improve the fishing habitat in Door County. We are always open to ideas of where we can help to do this. In the past we have donated money to the Hunter Safety Program, fish stocking, Sturgeon Bay Fire Department, City of Sturgeon Bay (Sawyer Park Boat Launch), and many more programs or groups. The pavilion that hosts these tournaments was made possible in part by the Sturgeon Bay Open Bass Tournament. The spring tournament is limited to 200 2-person teams and the fall tournament is limited to 100 2-person teams. For the spring tournament – entries are sent out to the teams that fished the previous year. They are given the first opportunity to send in their entry forms – postmarked on or after March 15th. Teams that are interested in entering the spring tournament that did not fish the previous spring are able to send in their entry form postmarked on or after March 31st. These dates can be subject to change and are specified on the entry form and on the website. Entry dates and deadlines are strictly enforced. Entries that are postmarked prior to due date will be returned. The fall tournament is an open entry – you can enter this tournament at the spring tournament if so desired. There are deadline dates and cancellation dates for each tournament; these dates are listed on the entry forms. The spring tournament is three fun filled days of fishing. Starting on Friday we give our advertising sponsors the ability to enjoy a day of fishing. These sponsors are invited to go fishing for the day with one of our registered teams. Each person in the boat can bring in a fish to enter to win prizes in the Fritz Shurmur Pro Am or money for the registered pro fishermen. Saturday and Sunday bring the chance for the teams to win the top prize of a boat, motor and trailer along with cash. The top 40 places are paid out for the spring tournament. The schedule of events is posted closer to the tournament to let everyone know what else they can expect for the weekend. The fall tournament has been changed to a one-day tournament the Saturday after Labor Day weekend. This is a cash payout tournament. Please watch the website for updates and pictures during the tournaments. The SBOBT has a Board of Directors and does hold an annual meeting each fall. The dates, time, and places are posted prior to the meeting. |
